"Now, I know that this is a limited sampling of games and none of the ones we tested are designed to use more than two to four threads. This means that most of the Core i7 980X is a sleep during these games. Of course, that will not always be the case. Intel (and more than a few game developers) are working hard to come out with games that not only use the latest version of DirectX, but also make use of the growing number of cores and threads available." -tweaktown.com

  1. Great post and my friend, bravo on the research and putting this together in such a nice and neat package.

From what I gather, it is saying that basicly, the CPU -will not- have a substantial amount of difference on gaming after a certain point.

Im planning on an AMD Phenom II 940 OCd to 3.4 GHZ equal to the higher end phenom one in the benchmarks, with a decent 8800 512mb card, a 18" monitor, wireless keyboard, mouse all for $400, that's less than half the price of the top end CPU alone

Intel is perhaps too innovative, they are advancing before we can even get a chance to utilize the true power of their CPU, of course I mean for gaming, and 'typical' use. not running strict CPU reliant programs such as compressing, archiving, rendering, or editing.

Thanks for reading I hope you found this as informative as I did.
